Tamir Welfare organization 

In the year 1998, a partnership between Tamir Welfare Organization and ‘Leonard Cheshire Disability U.K (LCD) was established with a view to provide comprehensive rehabilitation services to persons with disabilities in Pakistan. This partnership between Tamir (NGO) and Leonard Cheshire was called Tamir Cheshire Community Programme. During the years 1998-2001, Leonard Cheshire provided technical support and tamir staff undergone capacity building trainings of staff and trustees at national and international level.

VISION
To create inclusive, barrier free and rights based society by empowering the disadvantaged community of Pakistan.
MISSION
To build an inclusive society through adequate resources and equal opportunities by providing community-based-services and the promotion of collaborative partnerships.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
1. To strengthen the rural & urban community through self-reliance activities.
2. To promote self-determination of community members especially economically poor women, children and disabled people.

Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) Work of Tamir: We are providing Community Based
rehabilitation (CBR) services to more than 650+ disabled of Faisalabad District every year.
Tamir has been in partnership with Leonard Cheshire Disability, UK (www.lcdisability.org) since 1998
and running the CBR programme called ‘Tamir Cheshire Community Programme (TCCP).
Since 2012, this programme is now registered as National council of Global Alliance of LCD, Pakistan
comprising more than 100 NGOs and national forums.

Pioneering Steps with the Global Alliance:

 

Inaugural Meeting, 17-18 October 2004: Mr. Stephen Anjum and Mrs. Thomsena Anjum played a pivotal role as Pakistan's sole representatives in the inaugural Global Alliance meeting in Bangkok, organized jointly by UNESCO and LCD. This historic gathering marked the inception of the Global Alliance concept, which received unanimous support. During the meeting, an Email Working Group was formed to refine the GA constitution and its articles.

 

Expanding Horizons, 11-18 July 2005: Ms. Tanya Barren, the International Director of LCD, extended an invitation to Stephen to attend the GA meeting in Goa, India, followed by subsequent meetings in Mumbai and Bangalore. Discussions during these gatherings covered vital topics, including the values, vision, and mission of Leonard Cheshire organizations worldwide, international partnerships, key themes for future work, and the delicate balance between strengthening the alliance and preserving individual autonomy.

Progress Continues, 17-18 October 2005: A trip to Bangkok was undertaken to deliberate on the first draft of the GA constitution.

 

Spreading the Word, 14 August 2005: A draft copy of the GA constitution was disseminated to all National Chairmen of South Asian Countries.

 

Formal Approval, April 07, 2006: The GA constitution received formal approval from UK Trustees, and this information was promptly communicated to all National Councils.

 

Regional Meeting, 19-20 December 2006: The South Asia Regional Meeting for GA took place in Colombo, Sri Lanka, with the primary focus on the GA constitution and the sharing of best practices among partners. Mr. Stephen Anjum was elected as the National Chairman of the Global Alliance for Pakistan, with the secretariat based in Tamir's office in Faisalabad, Pakistan.

 

Leadership and Identity, 19-20 July 2007: Elections were held for office bearers of the South Asia Regional Council, defining the roles and responsibilities of regional members. Additionally, a proposal was made to rebrand Leonard Cheshire as 'Leonard Cheshire Disability.'

 

Inaugural General Assembly, 19-23 May 2008: The first General Assembly of the Global Alliance convened in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, hosted by LCD. Mr. Stephen Anjum, representing Pakistan, participated in this landmark event. On the closing day of the conference, on 23rd May 2008, Mr. Stephen Anjum and Chairmen from 54 countries jointly signed the Global Alliance Constitution on Pakistan's behalf. It was decided that the General Assembly would reconvene every four years. The second General Assembly took place on 15-16 March 2012 in Bangkok. Subsequently, other members from TCCP participated in subsequent General Assemblies, with Mr. Stephen Anjum continuing to serve as the Chairman of the National Council of GA Pakistan to this day.

 

Global Alliance Newsletter, 23 Oct 2009: LCD began developing the 'Global Alliance Newsletter,' to which Mr. Stephen Anjum has been contributing continuously by providing reports from Pakistan for publication.

Regional Council Engagement, 31 May 2011: Mr. Pervaiz Gill attended the 'South Asia Regional Council Meeting' held in Mumbai from 31 August to 2nd September 2011. His presence and participation in the Regional Council Meeting underlined Pakistan's commitment to the Global Alliance's regional initiatives.

Strengthening Networks:

 

In Pakistan, Tamir and TCCP have been actively collaborating with diverse networking partners across Punjab, Baluchistan, Sindh, KPK province, and the Federal Capital. These strategic partners include NGOs, financial institutions such as ABL, networks, task forces, employers and employer federations, trade unions, corporate sectors, accounts and finance professionals, media organizations, and various other stakeholders. This extensive network underscores our dedication to the goals and principles of the Global Alliance of Leonard Cheshire Disability International.

 

Over the years, Pakistan's involvement in the Global Alliance has continued to grow, fostering a stronger and more inclusive global community for individuals with disabilities.
